Ahmad Shahroodi, PhD, P.Eng. joined the Civil Engineering team at our Ottawa office in August 2019, as a Senior Civil Engineer. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (structure) from Iran, master’s degree in Civil Engineering (non-destructive testing) from the University of Toronto, and doctorate in Civil Engineering (concrete technology) from the University of Ottawa. Prior to joining CEP, Ahmad worked as a project manager, structural designer, forensic engineer, and quality control manager in many structural and infrastructure projects in Toronto and Ottawa.
Ahmad Shahroodi is a certified Adjudicator by the Ontario Dispute Adjudication for Construction Contracts (ODACC), the authorized nominating authority under the Construction Act. Ahmad is able to hear construction adjudications, consider Claimants and Respondents positions, and come to the determination, which is ultimately enforceable by the courts of law.
Ahmad is a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the province of Ontario. He is also an associate member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI)-Committee 228 (Non-destructive Testing of Concrete) and a voting member of the ACI-Committee 228-B (Inspection of Structures). In addition, he is an active member at the Canadian Society of Civil Engineering (CSCE), Council of Canadian Administrative Tribunals (CCAT), and Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute of Ontario (ADRIO).
Having worked as a designer/project manager/QC manager in the concrete industry (ready-mix and precast), he is familiar with the testing, capabilities and possible issues with concrete structures. In the world of forensic engineering, Ahmad has worked on both infrastructure (sewers, tunnels, culverts, bridges, retaining walls, and underground electrical utility vaults) and structural projects. This experience coupled with his skills in structural design means Ahmad has an excellent understanding of structure/infrastructure behaviour under various types of loading and damage.
As a forensic expert, Ahmad conducts investigations on a variety of failures and prepares expert reports to identify the cause of the damage/collapse and determine its extent. If required, Ahmad conducts detailed destructive and non-destructive inspection utilizing a range of methods. In addition, Ahmad can design rehabilitation methods for damaged structures. Ahmad’s forensic reports and expertise have been referred to in several provincial projects.
Considering his project management in various heavy civil engineering projects, Ahmad has vast experience in contract administration. Coupled with his strong construction contract law knowledge, he adjudicates contract disputes in civil engineering projects.
