Cependant, des bris spontan\u00e9s surviennent assez r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement, m\u00eame pour les fabricants reconnus. Nous vous offrons ce bref tour d&rsquo;horizon sur ces composants de laiton et sur les d\u00e9faillances qu&rsquo;ils peuvent subir.<\/p>\n<p>D&rsquo;abord, notons qu&rsquo;il existe plusieurs alliages de laiton et qu&rsquo;ils sont typiquement class\u00e9s en fonction de leur teneur en zinc. Cette proportion donne une teinte \u00e0 l&rsquo;alliage variant du rouge\u00e2tre au jaune lorsque le pourcentage de zinc d\u00e9passe approximativement 20\u00a0%. Presque toutes les pi\u00e8ces de plomberie en laiton (sp\u00e9cialement celles en laiton jaune) sont sujettes \u00e0 la fissuration sous contrainte, mais les connecteurs NPT (de l\u2019anglais <em>National Pipe Thread (Tapered<\/em>)) femelles, les valves \u00e0 bille et les pi\u00e8ces filet\u00e9es sont les \u00e9l\u00e9ments plus couramment impliqu\u00e9s. En effet, bien qu\u2019il existe certaines incertitudes quant \u00e0 la sensibilit\u00e9 de certains alliages de laiton \u00e0 la FSC, la litt\u00e9rature scientifique tend g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement \u00e0 d\u00e9montrer qu\u2019un laiton jaune contenant plus de 15 %, voire 20\u00a0% de zinc, est significativement plus sensible \u00e0 la FSC qu\u2019un laiton rouge \u00e0 plus faible teneur en zinc.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Combinaison de facteurs<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Les forces appliqu\u00e9es sur les composants de plomberie incluent les contraintes r\u00e9siduelles provenant de la production, les contraintes caus\u00e9es par la pression d\u2019eau interne et, finalement, celles r\u00e9sultant de l\u2019installation\/l\u2019assemblage. La fissuration sous contrainte provient le plus souvent de d\u00e9fauts de fabrication, soit d&rsquo;un usinage trop agressif, d&rsquo;un traitement thermique d\u00e9fectueux ou d\u2019un assemblage inad\u00e9quat. La s\u00e9lection d\u2019un alliage \u00e0 haute teneur en zinc peut aussi \u00eatre un facteur contributif.<\/p>\n<p>De plus, dans certains cas complexes, il est possible de noter la pr\u00e9sence des deux types de m\u00e9canismes de bris simultan\u00e9ment. En effet, la d\u00e9zincification superficielle peut se produire simultan\u00e9ment \u00e0 la fissuration, comme montr\u00e9 \u00e0 la figure 4.
