Jason Edelstein joined the Civil Engineering team at CEP Toronto in April 2020, as a Forensic Engineer. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Building Engineering and a master’s degree of applied science in Building Engineering (Building Envelopes), both from Concordia University. Prior to joining CEP, Jason worked as a consulting engineer conducting building condition assessments and problem investigations, and has acted as expert witness for dispute resolution in building envelope failures. Jason has also worked as a designer, specification writer, construction contract administrator and project manager on countless building envelope, structural and pavement restoration projects throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
Having conducted over 1,500 commercial and residential building condition assessments, Jason has been exposed to a wide range of building system components and deteriorations. Jason’s specific expertise in building envelop systems comes from having worked as a building envelope designer and contract administrator in the construction industry for several years. He is familiar with recognized and accepted industry practices, and possible issues that may develop with envelope assemblies. This experience along with his research into building envelope performance gives Jason an excellent understanding of roof and wall assembly behaviour in a wide variety of conditions. Jason has experience in the preparation of expert technical reports related to numerous types of roof and wall assembly failures.
As a Forensic Engineer, Jason conducts site investigations on a variety of failures and prepares technical reports to identify the cause of the damage and determine its extent. He also ensures compliance with manufacture specifications, codes, standards, and good practice. Jason can provide both destructive and non-destructive inspection methods, as well as designing rehabilitation techniques for failed and deteriorated building envelope systems.
