Shiyi Chen

GENERAL INFORMATION

Shiyi Chen holds a bachelor’s degree in material science and engineering from Northwestern Polytechnical University in China, a Master’s of Engineering degree in material science from Queen Mary University of London in the UK, and a Master’s of Applied Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Manitoba. Her academic background allowed her to gain substantial knowledge and skills with various materials including metals, polymers, ceramics and composites. Shiyi is also a CSA W178.2 Level 1 certified inspector (CSA W47.1 / CSA W59).

EXPERTISE

As a forensic investigator, Shiyi carries out on-site investigations, conducts destructive and non-destructive exams, characterizes materials through lab testing and prepares expert reports. She has carried out various lab testing for materials characterization in the past and has investigated component failures due to manufacturing defects, design issues and inappropriate material selection.
