Olivia Yalnizyan, M.A.Sc., P.Eng.
Senior Forensic Engineer, Materials & Metallurgy – Ontario
Olivia Yalnizyan joins CEP’s Materials & Metallurgy Group with 15 years of engineering experience, including 9 years dedicated to forensic investigations.
She specializes in product liability matters, equipment breakdown, and material failures, with expertise in fracture mechanics and fractographic analysis for cases involving metals, polymer, ceramics and composites. Olivia has led hundreds of investigations and is recognized for her ability to determine the root cause through evidence based engineering analysis, while delivering clear, defensible conclusions for insurers, legal counsel, crown corporations, and private enterprises.
Olivia also has additional specialized expertise in biomaterials and medical device and implant failures, and has completed many medical liability investigations in Ontario.
She holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Materials Science & Engineering from the University of Toronto and is a licensed Professional EngineerIn addition to her investigative work, she lectures in graduate engineering programs and delivers accredited seminars on product liability and building systems failures.
Christopher J. Reed, M.Sc. Eng. (Fire), P.Eng., CFEI, CFII
Senior Forensic Fire Engineer – British Columbia
CEP also welcomes Christopher J. Reed, of Reed Engineering, as a senior consultant with more than 30 years of experience spanning chemical process engineering, firefighting and forensic fire protection engineering.
Chris has led complex investigations involving residential, commercial, marine, and industrial fires; explosions; dust hazards; spontaneous heating events; clandestine laboratory incidents; and major-loss industrial claims. He has provided expert testimony in both civil and criminal proceedings, including large-loss litigation and serious injury matters.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta and a Master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Chris is licensed in Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan and holds both CFEI and CFII designations.
He is a former President of the BC Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI) and regularly delivers technical training across North America on fire investigation methodology and NFPA 921.
